Paul Barnes

Paul Barnes is president of the San Diego division of Shea Homes, the largest privately-owned builder in the United States.  He reports to the Chief Executive Officer of all the Shea Homes divisions. He has been president of the division since February 2004.  Paul is responsible for the ultimate profitability of the Shea Homes San Diego division, which is engaged in the planning, design, development, construction, marketing, and sales of single and multiple residential homes. 

He oversees strategic as well as tactical decisions, including formulating long and short range operating objectives and organizing, planning, staffing and directing the division activities.  He establishes, approves, and monitors operating budgets and monitors all aspects of the division’s processes.  He actively participates in the community on various boards of directors, and coaches and provides leadership to five senior managers.

Immediately prior to his appointment as president of Shea Homes San Diego, Paul was Vice President of Acquisition and Community Development for the division. During his tenure he was responsible for the acquisition of over 4,000 homesites, and the planning and development of over 50 neighborhoods. 

Before joining Shea Homes, Paul worked for McMillin Companies in San Diego, in the roles of project management and acquisitions.  Other industry activities date to 1988.

Mr. Barnes holds an MBA from San Diego State University and received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego.  He is a Licensed Real Estate Broker and holds a Class A Contractor’s license in the state of California.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Building Industry Association.
