Juli Beth (JB) Hinds

Juli Beth (JB) Hinds, AICP is a Staff Research Associate and Lecturer in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the University of California San Diego and Principal of Birchline Planning LLC. She holds a BA in Economics from Hollins University and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the Bloustein School at Rutgers. Ms. Hinds leads a number of UCSD research initiatives on the intersection of urban water quality, equity, and the built environment, including a past project with APA on Innovations in Planning and Public Engagement for Community Resilience. She is past Chair of the APA Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Division and Water Environment Federation’s Stormwater Management Symposium, and serves as a technical advisor to the US Environmental Protection Agency. In 2013 she testified to the US Senate on proposed changes to the national municipal stormwater management rule. As a consultant, she provides land use planning, water resource policy, program development, strategic communication, and financial management services to clients from Atlantic Canada to Hawaii. Prior to establishing Birchline Planning, she served as a municipal planning director in Vermont for 11 years. She teaches land use planning, sustainable planning, and world urban systems at UCSD.
