Career and Internship Resources

The Department of Urban Studies and Planning encourages students to start thinking about their career and professional development early in their academic program. To support students in their career exploration and professional development journey we have a variety of resources geared specifically to Real Estate and Development and Urban Studies and Planning majors and minors.

Career and Internship Advising

The USP Department's Director of Industry Relations and Student Professional Development, Jennifer Eller, is available to help USP/RED students and recent alumni with a variety of subjects via one-on-one advising appointments as well as a variety of professional development workshops and events.  This page also lists additional resources on campus.

Professional Development Tips

Students are encouraged to create a professional development plan and intentionally incorporate career exploration and development into their time at UC San Diego. This page provides specific recommendations based on academic year.

Career Exploration

Career exploration is a crucial step students should take while earning their degree. This section lists out the benefits of conducting career exploration, lists out career paths, resources, job titles, post-bachelor's education, and potential employers Urban Studies and Planning and Real Estate and Development, and has information on professional associations associated with our programs that students are encouraged to participate in.

Resumes and Cover Letters

Students and alumni can request a resume template and tips as well as cover letter tips.  A polished resume is one of the key parts of a successful internship or job search.
