Christina Schoppert Devereux

Christina is a lawyer and urban planner whose interest in cities and equity was and continues to be informed by her native Baltimore. Before moving to Southern California, she practiced law at Community Law Center, where she represented small community-based organizations in Baltimore in their self-directed neighborhood revitalization and equitable development enterprises. She remains active in affordable housing and community land trust advocacy efforts in Baltimore. She holds a BA in Urban Studies and in French from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law and Policy. She holds a Master's in Planning from the University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy, where she also completed two years of a PhD in Urban Planning, in which she studied the evolution of "growth" as a primary goal for American cities and the attendant effect of this evolution on poor urban communities. She lives in North Park with her husband and three young children, and has been teaching in the USP Department at UCSD since 2020.
