Semester Exchange 

Program Information

We have a strategic partnership with Bauhaus University, one of the preeminent schools of planning and design in the world and will be sending two students to Weimar, Germany in the fall. The USP Program has the only undergraduate department-to-department study abroad program in the UC system. The program has complete tuition reciprocity (you will pay your UCSD tuition and study at Bauhaus). All courses are completely approved for the USP major and minor. Seniors may complete their senior sequence requirement at Bauhaus. Rising sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to apply.​

Dates:

August 2019 - February 2020

Includes: two-week summer session in August, one month of conversational German in September, the fall semester runs from early October to mid-February.

Eligibility:

All USP and RED majors and minors

Scholarship Opportunity:

The European Union is providing a scholarship for one student in the amount of 4,300 Euros. This will cover airfare and a monthly living stipend.

Modernism and Design: The Bauhaus Experience

Summer Session I 2018 in Weimar, Germany

What are Global Seminars?

UCSD Global Seminars are 5 week long, summer study abroad experiences led by a UCSD professor. Students enroll in 2 English-taught courses (8 UCSD quarter units) and class sized are between 15-28 students. Global Seminars provide a unique way to earn credit for your major, minor, GEs, or college requirements, all while exploring a new country and culture.

  • USP173GS: History of Urban Planning and Design
  • USP 183GS: Urban Design Practicum

Program Highlights

  • Focuses on the history, contraditions, and legacy of the International style - an influential movement in art, architecture, and planning
  • Based at Bauhaus University in Weimar with visits to Berlin and Dessau
  • Fulfulls Urban Studies and Planning major requirements and also related to visual arts and engineering
